How do I find which RAM is compatible with my desktop motherboard?

What is the difference between DDR3, DDR4, and DDR5 RAM?

DDR3 runs at 1333–1600 MHz and uses 240-pin (desktop) or 204-pin (laptop) slots. DDR4 runs at 2133–3200 MHz with 288-pin / 260-pin SO-DIMM and offers lower voltage. DDR5 starts at 4800 MHz, doubles the bandwidth of DDR4, and is used in the latest Intel 12th/13th Gen and AMD Ryzen 7000 platforms. Each generation is physically incompatible with the previous one.

Can I upgrade my laptop RAM?
